Anchor Hocking has been pressing the Montana shape for decades - a wide, slightly bellied body with a brushed metal lid and a rubber fresh-seal gasket - and it is the one canister here that looks right on an open shelf rather than only inside a cupboard. Half a gallon each holds a 5 lb bag of flour or a full box of pasta, the mouth is wide enough to get a measuring cup in without funnelling, and the glass is thick enough to survive being knocked against a tap.

Good to know: The lid is a friction seal with a gasket, not a clamp or a screw thread, so it keeps things fresh on a counter but is not airtight enough for long-term storage of anything you would freeze or vacuum-seal. Glass at this weight is heavy when full - about 5 lb - so it wants a low shelf, not a top one. Hand-wash the lid; the dishwasher will dull the brushed finish.
