Every other green rug on this page is a floral, and florals fight with patterned curtains, patterned wallpaper and a patterned sofa. This is the one that does not: a soft moss-and-cream checkerboard, large enough in scale to read as a texture from standing height rather than as a graphic. It is the rug to buy if the rest of the room is already busy, or if you want green underfoot in a kitchen or hallway where a rose print would look fussy. Low pile, machine washable, and light enough at under 10 lb to get into a domestic machine without a fight.

Good to know: It is a faux-wool pile, not wool - it looks the part but does not have the springiness or the 20-year life of the real thing. The checker is also a commitment: gingham and check-on-check will clash with it, so it wants plain or floral textiles around it, not more squares. Currently sold in 5x7 only, so it will not scale up to a big living room.
