Lulu Home Handwoven Rope Pumpkins, Set of 3

The hardest thing to find in October is a pumpkin with no face on it. These are three coiled-rope pumpkins - one cream, one cocoa-and-natural, one orange-and-cream - wound in thick twisted cord with a knotted stem, and they are the piece that lets this look run from early September to the end of November without ever committing to Halloween. Grouped on a mantel or a kitchen shelf they give you the seasonal shape and the natural texture that a painted ceramic pumpkin cannot, and they store flat-ish in a box without chipping, which is more than can be said for most of the category. Good to know: Review volume is still low - around 14 ratings - so this is a newer listing than most of what we recommend, and it is worth checking the rating has held before you buy. They are small decorative objects, roughly 4 to 5 inches, so a set of three reads as a vignette rather than a centrepiece; buy two sets if you want a full mantel. The orange in the set is a real orange, not a muted terracotta, so if you want an entirely neutral shelf you will be using two of the three.
