Nintiue Arc Floor Lamp with Linen Shade, Dimmable, 1200 Lumens, Brass

An arc lamp is the single best trick for a small nook because the base tucks behind or beside the chair while the head leans out over your shoulder — you get light on the page without giving up floor space to a table lamp. The shade is real fabric in a warm linen tone rather than shiny plastic, so the light lands soft and golden instead of clinical, and the 0 to 100 percent dimmer means the same lamp does bright afternoon reading and low evening wind-down. At 1200 lumens with the bulb included it is genuinely bright enough for small print. Nearly 1,800 reviewers at 4.5 stars, for under fifty dollars.

Good to know: The weighted base is what keeps an arc lamp upright — it is heavy and takes up a real footprint on the floor, so measure before you commit to a very narrow gap.
