Everything else on this list is textile or ceramic, which is why the palette can start to feel flat - purple absorbs light, and a kitchen done entirely in it goes heavy fast. Glass is the fix. These are short embossed hobnail goblets in a translucent plum, so they throw the colour instead of soaking it up, and a set of four on an open shelf does more for the scheme in daylight than another set of towels would. At around five dollars a glass they are also the cheapest thing here that guests actually pick up.

Good to know: The tone reads considerably lighter than true aubergine - closer to a blush plum in daylight, deeper only when they are full - so do not buy these expecting them to match the eggplant towels. They are pressed glass rather than hand-blown, which means a visible mould seam on most pieces, and hand-washing keeps the hobnail texture from clouding.
